Don’t type this phrase on your Mac unless you like crashing it: ‘File:///’

A bug report was categorized with the Apple system on Thursday. As to a copy of the bug on Open Radar, all you have bother about is just to type the text below into any window in an app on OS X to instantly crash the app. We’ve made Tweetbot, Safari, Chrome, TextEdit and a few  more to finish working using this bug, though some rare apps appear to be resistant. This bug is so persistent that typing it in post stopped Safari and Chrome, so we’ve inserted an illustration of the wording below (actually GIMP is one of the apps that can hold it securely).

crashing it: ‘File:///’

So as to do this, you’ll require to type the phrase into any OS X app, with three slashes along with the capital F. The bug report filed with Apple consider that this is due to the spell checker assembled into OS X, however as it show to have an effect on text boxes such as the Safari location bar that don’t contain spellcheck, we get this supposition suspect. The bug has an effect on all Macs running Mountain Lion, however does not show any result on Lion or Snow Leopard.
